SBSC exists to support the Scottish building services industry delivery of the Certification requirements of The Building (Scotland) Act 2003.
The Building (Scotland) Act 2003 introduced a new Building Standards system for Scotland that raises standards and simplifies the approval of many construction activities for the public, Verifiers (local authorities) and the industry.
The new Building Standards legislation provides for the appointment of Approved certifiers of Design and Approved Certifiers of Construction. Properly qualified professionals can become Certifiers and have the authority to certify work for building warrant purposes.
SBSC provides an information platform for the industry, allows individuals and companies to register as Certifiers and to manage the Certification process.
More information on the Scottish Building Standards system is available from the Scottish Building Standards Agency (SBSA) website at www.sbsa.gov.uk and is contained in the Scheme Guide for the Certification of Construction (Electrical Installations to BS 7671) scheme approved by The Scottish Ministers.
The SBSA Certification Register contains the only definitive list of qualified professionals who can certify work in Scotland.
